How to Care for Your Skin Following a Laser Hair Removal Session
Posted on 09 November 2021
Laser hair removal in Toronto is not new but has been gaining momentum among people looking for a permanent and less painful hair removal process. At NUYouth Medispa in Toronto, our laser hair removal treatments are pain-free more often than not. But with any type of hair removal treatment, temporary redness or irritation can follow. To manage discomfort following a visit to a medical spa clinic in Toronto, proper aftercare between laser hair treatments can make all the difference.
When you visit NU Youth Medispa, we always start with a complimentary consultation. If you have any questions about laser hair removal in Toronto, we're happy to answer all your questions as they pertain to your skin.
Here are some laser hair removal tips you can use after each session.
Avoid Sun & UV Exposure
Natural or fake tanning can interfere with laser hair removal results, and exposure to UV rays can irritate the skin in the treatment area. During laser hair removal, highly focused light targets dark hair follicles. Tanning interferes with the laser's ability to effectively target the follicles, impeding the treatment.
When going outside on sunny days, be sure to use an SPF of at least 30 or consider starting your laser hair treatments during the fall and winter months, where natural UV rays are less intense and easier to avoid. If you visit NU Youth Medispa in November and December 2021, you can get 50% off laser hair removal.
No Topical Treatments
It might be tempting to use lotion or a topical pain killer after laser hair removal. But, it's best to wait it out for at least 24 hours after a session before applying any topical creams, ointments, cosmetics, or even deodorant to your skin. Within this time period, your skin is more prone to irritation, so it's best to stay away from hot water as well. Instead, try icing the area in 15-minute intervals to manage redness or pain. 24 hours after your treatment, if there is persisting pain, hydrocortisone cream or aloe vera can be applied to the skin.
Wait to Shave
It's advised by laser hair removal technicians in Toronto that patients shave their legs the night before a session, but it's important that no hair removal occurs following the first 24-48 hours of the last session. Ahead of your next appointment, only shave to remove hair from the treatment area. Waxing, threading, and plucking can reverse the effects of laser hair removal in some cases.
Exfoliate Your Skin
A couple days after a laser hair removal session, lightly exfoliating the skin can help advance treatment results by facilitating the shedding of treated hair follicles. The best time to begin exfoliation can be between 2-3 days or a week. Before engaging in exfoliation, talk to your laser hair technician for a personalized recommendation. Within the first few days of your laser hair removal session, you must avoid any activities that scratch or tear the skin.
What to Expect After Laser Hair Removal in Toronto
Everyone's skin is different, so what happens after laser hair removal treatments can vary. Note that redness and bumps are normal after-effects of laser hair removal. To set your expectations for laser hair removal, talk to one of our experts at NU Youth Medispa.
